What We Treat

Helping children navigate their emotions, build resilience, and thrive in a supportive environment.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

OCD involves intrusive, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or mental acts (compulsions) aimed at reducing distress. CBT, particularly Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), is highly effective. Treatment typically takes 12–20 weeks, depending on symptom severity and consistency of practice.

Get in touch if your child is:
• Repeating behaviours such as excessive cleaning, checking, or counting.
• Struggling with intrusive and distressing thoughts they can’t control.
• Feeling unable to stop compulsive behaviours, even when they interfere with daily life.

Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

GAD is characterised by excessive, uncontrollable worry about everyday situations. CBT focuses on identifying and challenging anxious thought patterns and developing coping strategies. Treatment often requires 10–20 sessions, with noticeable improvements usually within the first few weeks.

Get in touch if your child is:
• Constantly worrying about a variety of issues, big or small.
• Showing signs of restlessness, fatigue, or trouble focusing.
• Struggling with sleep, or experiencing muscle tension or physical discomfort due to worry.

Panic Disorder

GAD is characterised by excessive, uncontrollable worry about everyday situations. CBT focuses on identifying and challenging anxious thought patterns and developing coping strategies. Treatment often requires 10–20 sessions, with noticeable improvements usually within the first few weeks.

Get in touch if your child is:
• Constantly worrying about a variety of issues, big or small.
• Showing signs of restlessness, fatigue, or trouble focusing.
• Struggling with sleep, or experiencing muscle tension or physical discomfort due to worry.

Phobias (including Emetophobia – fear of vomiting)

Phobias are intense fears of specific objects, situations, or experiences. CBT for phobias involves gradual exposure therapy to desensitise the individual to the feared stimulus. For most phobias, treatment can take 6–12 sessions, while more complex phobias like emetophobia may require additional time.

Get in touch if your child is:
• Avoiding certain places, objects, or activities because of intense fear.
• Having extreme anxiety or panic when faced with their fear.
• Showing signs of distress that interfere with their daily life.

Health Anxiety (Hypochondria)

Health anxiety involves excessive worry about having or developing a serious illness, often despite medical reassurance. CBT helps individuals challenge catastrophic health-related thoughts and reduce compulsive behaviours like frequent checking or seeking reassurance. Treatment typically lasts 10–20 sessions, depending on the intensity of the anxiety.

Get in touch if your child is:
• Constantly worried about being seriously ill despite medical reassurance.
• Checking their body frequently for signs of illness.
• Avoiding activities or information related to health out of fear.

Social Anxiety Disorder

Social anxiety is an intense fear of social situations where one might feel judged, embarrassed, or humiliated. CBT focuses on identifying unhelpful beliefs, challenging negative self-perceptions, and gradually facing feared social situations. Treatment usually requires 10–15 sessions, with steady improvement over time.

Get in touch if your child is:
• Fearful or anxious about being judged or embarrassed in social situations.
• Avoiding social events, school activities, or talking to peers.
• Experiencing physical symptoms such as blushing, sweating, or trembling when interacting with others.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

PTSD develops after exposure to a traumatic event and includes symptoms such as flashbacks, avoidance, and hypervigilance. Trauma-focused CBT helps individuals process traumatic memories and reduce distress. Treatment timelines range from 8–16 sessions, depending on the complexity of the trauma.

Get in touch if your child is:
• Reliving a traumatic event through flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive memories.
• Avoiding places, people, or reminders of the trauma.
• Feeling constantly on edge, irritable, or hypervigilant.

Depression

Depression involves persistent low mood, loss of interest, and difficulty with daily functioning. CBT focuses on changing negative thought patterns and promoting positive behavioural changes. Treatment typically requires 10–20 sessions, though early improvements are common with active participation.

Get in touch if your child is:
• Feeling persistently sad, hopeless, or tearful.
• Losing interest in hobbies, friends, or activities they used to enjoy.
• Struggling with fatigue, appetite changes, or difficulty concentrating.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

We are pleased to offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy as part of our specialised services for children, though availability is currently limited. EMDR is an evidence-based approach that helps children process and heal from traumatic experiences, anxiety, and other emotional challenges by using guided eye movements to support the brain’s natural healing process. It can be particularly effective for those who have experienced trauma, loss, or ongoing stress. Please contact us to discuss whether EMDR may be a good fit for your child and to check current availability.

Get in touch if your child is:
• Repeating behaviours such as excessive cleaning, checking, or counting.
• Struggling with intrusive and distressing thoughts they can’t control.
• Feeling unable to stop compulsive behaviours, even when they interfere with daily life.
